I guess you might have been wondering where on earth I got to. Since my last post quite a lot has happened.
I finished my surgical rotation at the end of August. It was definitely the most challenging term I did. The hours were longer. The patients were more complicated. The patient turnover was higher. I'll be honest and say that I didn't quite make it in one piece, it was very difficult and I definitely got burned out. But the term also had its rewarding moments, like when one of my patients gave me a big hug and a thank you present when she left hospital, or learning to suture in operating theatre. I also went to the hospital ball with all the other doctors and had a fantastic time.
After surgery was finished I started working in Emergency, and that's where I am now. The things I like about the term are the fact that you are at work for exactly 10 hours, you work more or less at your own pace, and there is lots of senior support. The things I don't like are shift work, the fact that there's always more work to do no matter how efficient you are, and not being able to predict what comes through the door. I did my first set of nights (3 shifts) two weeks ago and while it was very scary and EXTREMELY tiring (seriously, humans aren't designed to be working at 3am) I know that I can cope with it. Although, you do get some strange people coming through, like the lady who told me at 5:30am on my last shift that she was possessed by evil spirits and one of them was in her back passage...
What else... I've bought an electric piano which now sits in my living room. It has headphones so I can jam away at all hours of the day or night and it's been very therapeutic. I'm enjoying relearning my old pieces and learning new ones.
Mr Slippers has walked into my life. He's a doctor at another hospital, we went to medical school together. I've mentioned him on this blog before actually: his previous aliases are Someone Special and The Extracorporeal Manifestation Of My Conscience. We've been together for 6 months now. I have never been so happy :D
Perfect info! beautiful translation, i high appreciate this one, thanks for sharing yumm!
